A day at the zoo

Last Saturday we got to go to the zoo with my Mom and we had a great time! It was the first time that David had the chance to go to the zoo with the kids since both the other times we've gone he had to work. Hey, somebody had to pay for our zoo admission right?!? I'm glad he was able to come with us this time. There were a zillion people at the zoo so we had to park at the Zoo's overflow parking area which is two freeway exits down and a loooooong hike to the school bus drop off/pick up area. Grace was really excited about riding on a school bus so at least one of us was excited about the prospect. Thank goodness there were three of us adults because we had a ton of stuff to hold on to! David sat with the red wagon on the bus, and my Mom and I each took a child and either the diaper or camera bags.

Grace really enjoyed seeing all the animals but Ethan wasn't too sure. Everytime we'd hold him to see an animal he would put a death grip on us as soon as he spotted one. The first animal he really saw was a giraffe and the expression on his face was hilarious. Grace was just impressed with how tall the giraffe really was.

The highlight for me was seeing the hippos because they actually got up and MOVED while we were watching. That never happens. Usually all we see is the hippo sleeping with his rear end pointed at us. Lovely. All the animals were pretty animated, probably because they were enjoying the sunshine after a week of rain just like the rest of us!

Oh wait, this is the pose we usually see. Hippo butt.

Ethan's favorite part of the zoo was towards the end when we saw the Underwater Rainforest exhibit. As soon as he saw the fish underwater he was glued! He plastered himself to the glass, only turning every now and again to look at us and excitedly signing and saying "ish". It was really too cute. The only time he cried the whole day was when we all eventually got tired of looking at the fish in the brown water and made him leave!

Grace sported her hot pink sunglasses the whole time. Even inside when we were in the dark looking at penguins.

And look! A family photo! That's right, picture proof that I was at the zoo too :)

And here's my two favorite guys gazing on the rhinoceros that I don't think we've ever seen before. I'm pretty sure we missed him the last couple times we visited the zoo. Whoops!
