The Games We Play

David and I enjoy playing all kinds of games, everything from board games and card games to video games! I thought it'd be fun to share our favorite games to give our loyal blog readers some good game recommendations. I thought we'd kick off our game fest by talking about the board game Carcassonne. We affectionately refer to the game as Carc (a lot less syllables!) and enjoy playing the board game version AND the Xbox Arcade version. The Xbox version has the added bonus of showing you all the possibly moves for each tile which really helps beginners.

Each game of Carcassonne is different because the board is laid down one tile at a time by the players and makes the game more interesting. You just never know how it's going to turn out! Players earn points for building roads and cities and for completing abbeys and farming the land. You can play nicely or you can add a little excitement by weasling into someone else's city or farm and stealing their points. It's a fun game to strategize but it keeps you on your toes because each game is unique and different.

The game can be played by 2-5 players (another bonus because David and I can play just the two of us!) and generally takes about an hour to play. It was the Spiel des Jahres (German Game of the Year) winner of 2001 and we've noticed that pretty much any game that wins that award is going to be pretty good. Several of our favorites came straight off the Spiel des Jahres winners list!

This is the only picture I have in Photobucket of the game. Please excuse the fact that I'm pregnant and vacationing on the beach. I'm sure you can all understand.
