Game of the Week: Puerto Rico

I haven't had a Game of the Week in awhile, sorry for the delay! This week I thought I'd talk about the game Puerto Rico. It's a really fun game that does involve a fair amount of small parts which I know can be scary for some people. Rest assured that the long set up and complicated sounding rules really aren't hard to figure out and the game is a lot of fun. Especially if you like strategy games which is probably true if you're like us and enjoy German Style board games.

Puerto Rico can be played with 3-5 players and takes about 90 minutes to play. Of course if you've never played the game before it might take a little longer the first time when you're learning how the rounds work! The point of the game is to create valuable resources to export from your island to the mainland for victory points. To get the resources you build plantations and factories to make corn, indigo, sugar, tobacco, and coffee. Everyone has their own "island" board where they can place their plantations and buildings. One of the benefits of this game is that everyone participates in each turn, there's no long wait as everyone has their turn before you get to be a part of the action!

I apologize for not having my own pictures of this game but we haven't played it in awhile. So boardgamegeek.com images will have to suffice.
